System Announcements

  • New & Returning Students (Monday, 23 February 2015)

    You must log into Blackboard (and StudentMail) with your University username, which is usually five letters followed by three numbers (for example: abcde123).  You cannot log into Blackboard or Studentmail with an email address, Student ID number or ID card number, or a username from another institution.

    In general, access to Blackboard papers is granted on the first day of Semester. For most Semester 1 and Full Year papers this is Monday, 23 February.  You must complete enrolment to get access to Blackboard.

  • What's new in Blackboard since December 2014? (Friday, 30 January 2015)

    To find out what's new and what has changed in Blackboard since the December 2014 upgrade check out the Blackboard helpsite's 'What's New' page -

    In particular check out the changes to SafeAssign and previewing as a student.

  • Can't log in? (Tuesday, 20 January 2015)

    If you are a student and you can't log in, it might mean that:
      Your username or password is wrong; or
      None of your papers are using Blackboard this semester; or
      You have not completed enrolment; or
      You are not permitted to access Blackboard resources (this may be the case if you are a debtor).

    If you are a staff member and you can't log in, it might mean that:
      Your username or password is wrong; or
      None of your papers are using Blackboard this semester.

    If you require assistance with your username/password please contact the ITS Service Desk; or use eVision to check your enrolment status if you are a student.

  • Blackboard Maintenance - Saturdays & Sundays 4.30am (Thursday, 18 December 2014)

    At 4.30am on Saturdays and Sundays there will be a short period of 10mins where Blackboard may be unavailable. We recommend that you do not attempt any tests during this time.

    This is being done to maintain the performance of Blackboard.

  • Otago Capture Browser Recommendations (Wednesday, 16 July 2014)

    If you're having trouble watching Otago Capture lecture recordings:

    • On the Student Desktop computers, use Firefox or Safari.
    • On your own computer, make sure Flash is updated to version 14. 
      There are reported problems with Flash 12 & 13.
